1. Activeness
Happy healthy snails will typically be very active and will sometimes climb on top of each other.
2. Appetite
Happy healthy snails will tend to always be hungry and will be happy to taste test whatever smells yummy.
3. Clumping
A behavior in snails called “clumping” is often seen when there are two or more snails in a habitat. They will climb on top of each other and give each other snail piggy back rides!!
4. Sleeping
What we usually do when we are tired or bored, when snails are very happy they will often climb up to the top of the tank and hang upside down to sleep. No worries about them falling off, that’s what shells are for!
5. Breeding
In the early spring, snails may try to reproduce with other snails. Despite the gory idea of “love darts”, (see my post titled “What’s the Deal with Love Darts?”) snails express happiness by filling the air with love.
6. Socializing
Snails can’t talk and they can’t hear, but they have a special way of communicating with each other through snail-telepathy and mingle all of the time when they are happy.
7. Tree Racing
This is sort of a bonus habit, but when my snails are ready to get some outside time, I set them all at the base of a tree and let them race up to a certain mark. This is loads of fun and sometimes Cinnamon falls off 😂
8. Makin’ Slime
I’m sure we have all come across the internet phenomenon and have tried to make slime ourselves, but snails produce slime all day every day, even when they are in their shells. This slime is actually their mucus, and they make it for 3 main reasons. To stay moist, move, and just for pleasure!
9. Makin’ Poops
One of the grosser ways to tell your snail is healthy, poops will let you know your snail has been eating well!
10. I’m gonna level with you here-I have no 10th habit. I just wanted an even number. #perfectionist #thestruggleisreal .
